iPhone 5S? No thanks and it's all iOS7's fault.

What can I say? I am pleased. Actually, it's remarkable how pleased I feel because before its release, iOS7 served as a harbinger of software myopathy that dreaded my thoughts since my early impressions this past summer. No beta is perfect but from what I saw - I was not convinced. Fast forward to today and boy have my feelings changed. I love iOS7. The fluidity, the minimalist 2D art style, the thoughtful touches of quick access to the calculator (heavily used) and now the flashlight - there is much to be loved. My favorite revamp comes in the form of Safari. It's beautiful. Everything feels so well thought out and somehow it feels even more intuitive. But this Apple love-fest has a caveat - this is on my iPhone 4S.
iOS7? Yes please - but hold the phone.

Apple's venerable A5 chip continues to be able to keep up with its younger siblings and lo and behold my typical techno-lust appears to have been abated by a simple software update. The iPhone 4S in question isn't even relatively new - my wife and I have had ours for two years in October! Dare we wait one more year for a bigger and better iPhone that will inevitably come out? This is actually a feasible course of action for the first time since the release of the iPhone 4 with the first of its kind 326dpi. When that beaut came out, its screen screamed lick me and all other phones (my recently gifted iPhone 3GS included) seemed paltry and dour. Simply waiting to be able to upgrade to the 4S seemed like an eternity. But now looking at the release of the iPhone 5 and the upcoming 5C and 5S - that feeling of "I need it" has diminished successively year upon year. I guess iOS7 isn't the only thing at fault for this phenomenon but it's definitely the knockout punch.
